Zen yoga includes various physical asanas and energy exercises that are based on the Zen Buddhist tradition and have become popular in the Western world. It emphasizes three areas – physical balance, the flow of energy in the body and the presence of consciousness. One reason why our physical balance is important is that it strongly affects our mental and energetic balance.
The essence of Zen is the concept of the human system as an energy wholeness. The energy flows in the body are not random but follow specific directions and paths. This energy or ki / qi is perceived as something that can be strengthened or depleted. It has two basic dimensions – one that affects our health, well-being and emotional state, and the other one that takes us from any particular state to a state of non-dual consciousness. Applying a steady non-judgmental consciousness to the human body has a profound effect.
Exercises are built to open and unblock the body and find the natural state. At this class, we connect with nature, adapt asanas to the seasons and encourage the flow of energy in the body.
